GPS Unveils Expanded Indoor Air Quality Innovation Center

10/26/21

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA (OCTOBER 26, 2021) – GPS®, a leader in indoor air quality (IAQ), today unveiled its state-of-the-art Innovation Center. Located adjacent to GPS’ headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, the 8,000-square-foot facility is the culmination of months of incrementally building out what is now a world-class center for advancing innovation in IAQ.

WORLD-CLASS TESTING FOR SAFETY AND EFFICACY

The GPS center features 11 different, specially designed testing chambers outfitted with robotics, sensors and advanced software that take thousands of precise, real-time measurements of air quality and indoor air dynamics. These in-house chambers give GPS additional opportunities to test its [and other] products and speed up the development of safe and effective new technologies.

Testing in these chambers complements the extensive research that GPS continues to conduct with independent labs across the world as well as testing at its other advanced research center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The chambers, which range in size from six feet by six feet by six feet to 25 feet by 13 feet by eight feet, are also used to develop and fine-tune testing protocols that can be shared with other parties researching the impact of GPS’ unique and proprietary needlepoint bipolar ionization (NPBI TM) technology.

“Few if any IAQ companies do more indoor air quality testing than GPS. Our expanded Innovation Center is a big step forward for GPS, allowing us to make further advances in helping improve indoor air quality and with safety as a top priority,” said Glenn Brinckman, GPS’ chief executive officer.

Brinckman noted that GPS has spent millions this year alone on testing and research and development, working collaboratively with some of the country’s best third-party research laboratories to review, refine and confirm the safety and effectiveness of its technology.

“Indoor air is very dynamic, influenced by a multitude of factors that must be taken into account. Science plays a critical role in understanding and unlocking that reality, which requires a collaborative approach from researchers in numerous disciplines including chemistry, physics, microbiology and data science,” said Ed Sobek, PhD, GPS’ chief science officer. Dr. Sobek leads GPS’ scientific advisory board, which helps inform the company’s testing program. “GPS’ Innovation Center is a powerful home for scientific research.”

DELIVERING RESPONSIBLE INNOVATION:

The Innovation Center is also home to GPS’ expanding engineering/technical team working relentlessly to develop new products that meet the many challenges associated with indoor air. In addition to new labs for continuous testing, the team also has access to the Center’s five cutting-edge 3D printing machines, which enable rapid prototyping and fast, seamless development of finished products.

ABOUT GPS AND NBPI

Since its founding in 2008, GPS’ NBPI technology has been installed in thousands of locations, including research labs, healthcare facilities, schools, universities and airports. NPBI uses a unique and patented low energy, soft ionization technology application that works in concert with HVAC systems as part of a multi-layered approach to help reduce airborne particles and improve indoor air quality. GPS is one of the only manufacturers in the world to offer UL 2998 certification, UL’s stringent zero ozone emissions safety standard, across its entire brand portfolio.
