Why condition air when you can clean it? The Ventilation Rate Procedure (VRP) is the default for most designs, and for many projects it works. But when peak occupancy is driving equipment sizing, it can push mechanical scope well beyond what the building actually needs day to day.
ASHRAE 62.1 includes an alternative through the Indoor Air Quality Procedure (IAQP) that accounts for air cleaning in the space, and the equipment reductions on projects that apply it are substantial.
