A Budget-First Approach to Ventilation Design

ASHRAE 62.1-2022 changed what an Indoor Air Quality Procedure (IAQP) design has to prove. Air cleaners now need a third-party rating to ASHRAE 145.2 against a defined list of design compounds, and the calculations have to show it.

The CompleteAQ filter carries that rating in standard sizes and replaces the particle filter already in the rack. Pair it with an auto-cleaning GPS NPBI ionizer in the same unit for enhanced particle, odor and pathogen mitigation. Project Builder turns the design into Excel documentation ready for approval.

With that on paper, the IAQP lets your design bring in less outdoor air. Less outdoor air to condition lowers energy use throughout your buildings.

GPS CompleteAQ Filter rated to ASHRAE 145.2 and 52.2

Filtration That Complies. Ionization That Doesn’t Quit.

GPS Complete combines MERV-13 + carbon filtration and ionization in one simple, scalable solution. The CompleteAQ filter carries the third-party ratings the IAQP asks for. Auto-cleaning NPBI adds particle, odor and pathogen mitigation at full output, year after year.

CompleteAQ™ MERV 13 Molecular Filter

Particle and gas-phase filtration in one standard filter.

  • ASHRAE 52.2 rated to MERV 13
  • ASHRAE 145.2 rated for gas-phase contaminants
  • Third-party rated for all ASHRAE 62.1 design compounds
  • Low initial resistance: 0.1 in. w.g.
  • Up to 6 months of filter life*
  • Passive media: no power draw, no ozone generation
  • 1", 2" and 4" depths

*Based on ASHRAE published generation rates for design compounds. Actual filter life depends on occupancy, outdoor air quality and run hours.

Questions About IAQP in Your Designs?

Not sure whether IAQP fits the project, or how an existing ionization design carries over to ASHRAE 62.1-2022? GPS Air Application Engineering will work through it with you. Reach out and an application engineer will review the project and recommend filter selection, ionizer quantity and outdoor air rates.

CI-2®

Compact, auto-cleaning NPBI built for the units where in-duct ionizers can’t go: fan coils, heat pump PTACs, ductless mini splits, ceiling cassettes and air handlers up to 2,400 CFM. Built-in BAS alarm contacts report system status, and the automatic cleaning cycle means no maintenance.

GPS-FC24™-AC

Lightweight, auto-cleaning NPBI for systems up to 2,400 CFM or 6 tons, with mounting options at the fan inlet, on interior duct walls or on the floor. It runs directly on 24–240 VAC with no separate power supply and puts out more than 300 million ions/cc.

Why Auto-Cleaning Matters

Ions improve air quality. Higher ion levels are more effective on odors, particles and pathogens. In days, standard ionizers provide a fraction of their initial output. GPS Air ionizers self-clean daily, returning to their full potential.

Already Specifying Ionization for IAQP?

ASHRAE 62.1-2022 added a design compound list and a third-party single-pass test under ASHRAE 145.2. Those requirements call for a companion filter to supplement NPBI. The fix is one line in your specification.

1

Keep Your NPBI Ionizer

Keep the auto-cleaning GPS NPBI ionizer you already know.
2

Update the Filter Spec

Update the filter line to a CompleteAQ filter with particle and molecular removal.
3

Change Filters as Usual

The CompleteAQ filter replaces the particle filter in the rack, so filter changes take no added labor.

GPS Complete FAQs

What is GPS Complete?

GPS Complete is an IAQP air cleaning solution from GPS Air for RTUs, water source heat pumps and split system fan coil units. It combines carbon filtration and ionization.

The CompleteAQ MERV 13 molecular filter is third-party rated for all ASHRAE 62.1 design compounds, and a CI-2 or GPS-FC24-AC auto-cleaning NPBI ionizer provides enhanced particle, odor and pathogen mitigation.

What does the CompleteAQ filter do?

It captures particles and gases in one standard filter. MERV 13 media, rated to ASHRAE 52.2, handles particles, and activated carbon rated to ASHRAE 145.2 handles gas-phase contaminants. Those third-party ratings are what let the filter count as an air cleaner in an IAQP design, and it fits the filter rack the unit already has.

Why does NPBI need a companion filter for the IAQP?

ASHRAE 62.1-2022 requires air cleaners in an IAQP design to carry third-party ratings under ASHRAE 145.2, derated for end of useful life. The new design compound list and the 145.2 single-pass test call for a filter with particle and molecular removal to supplement NPBI.

How often do the filters need to be changed?

About every six months in a typical classroom, based on ASHRAE published generation rates for the design compounds. Actual filter life depends on occupancy, outdoor air quality and run hours.

What filter sizes are available?

CompleteAQ filters come in a variety of standard sizes, with 1" and 2" depths standard and 4" on request. They cover common rooftop units, water source heat pumps and split system fan coil units. Project Builder’s Filter Configuration Module quotes the right sizes and counts for common equipment.

Will the filter add static pressure?

The CompleteAQ filter has a low initial resistance of 0.1 in. w.g. For units with high face velocity, confirm resistance and filter life with GPS Air Application Engineering.

Does GPS Complete produce ozone?

No. The CI-2 and GPS-FC24-AC are listed to UL 2998, which validates zero ozone emissions. The CompleteAQ filter is passive media with no power draw and no ozone generation.

Can GPS Complete connect to the BMS?

Yes. Both ionizers include a normally open dry alarm contact for BMS monitoring.

How do I design a project with GPS Complete?

Start in Project Builder. It runs the IAQP calculations, selects filters for common equipment and exports the documentation. For a review of your design, contact GPS Air Application Engineering or your GPS Air representative.
