LEED v5 of the U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC) building rating system accepts ventilation designs using the Indoor Air Quality Procedure (IAQP) from ASHRAE 62.1-2022. LEED v5 accepts Ventilation Rate Procedure and IAQP designs as prerequisites for fundamental air quality -- upon which credits may be added.
Design must follow the requirements of ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2022 Sections 5 and 6 including the IAQP. Filtration in the system must meet the requirements listed - MERV13, or ePM1 50%, or in room air cleaning where systems are tested for effectiveness per AHSRAE 62.1-2022 Addendum N. smartIAQ models comply with 62.1 Addendum N testing requirements.
Design for lower concentrations (below 62.1 IAQ Procedure) for enhanced IAQ. The smartIAQ calculator supports validation to lower thresholds and smartIAQ is configurable to lower PM and formaldehyde limits. UL2998 and lower outdoor air meet the ozone limit. Enhanced IAQ limits:
Design with the capability to address outdoor events that negatively influence IAQ such as
wildland fire smoke. smartIAQ filtration enhances PM2.5 and TVOCs removal. If BMS integrated, coordinate longer operating time & airflow in with less polluted outdoor air.
Design spaces to operate in an infection risk management mode per AHSRAE 241-2023. smartIAQ models with MERV13A (or higher) filtration complies for both safety and efficiency portions of the standard.
Provide indoor air monitors for CO2, PM2.5, TVOC, Temperature, and Relative Humidity. smartIAQ systems have integrated sensors. Note: USGBC directs sensors to be located between 3 and 6 feet above the floor - smartIAQ sensors are integrated and provide accurate measures of recirculated air not potentially stagnant air on a wall.
Following the IAQP per Standard 62.1-2022 directs validating air quality via third-party laboratory testing. These testing standards may provide a point for Pre-Occupancy Air Testing under the EQc5 credit as well.
Note: USGBC, LEED, LEED v5, ASHRAE are the property of of their respecitive owners. GPS Air attempts to properly describe the “standards” but does not represent or guarantee smartIAQ achieves credits in every application.
